artists in the park

You know how I love live music and art in all it’s various forms.

Check them out here (Myspace) and here (Facebook).

Think musical styling the 90′s and Maroon 5. The sax and strings are a nice touch, but overall, their sound is a bit dated, and I’m [...]

good morning/afternoon/evening

Hello Pretty Birds,

Won’t be posting (outside of this today), but I promise to come back tomorrow full force.

So here’s a list of excuses, because I know there will be a barage of emails and comments about me not posting today, most of all, not posting the new artists I promised and  album review I promised. You want to “knife me?“

Excuse 1: I decided to let [...]

comforting sounds pt. 2

I love live music.

In all it’s incarnations.

It’s full of comforting sounds.

PS. my vid-editing software is FAILING on a horrendous scale.

You’ll be forced to endure arbitrary clips that change angle and orientation constantly.

Sorry I can’t splice and merge them together all artsy-fartsy, but smile, it’s Thursday!

And don’t worry, I’ll [...]

comforting sounds

Some things are just comfortable. Some sounds, some mannerisms.

Some routines. Some rituals. They just feel right.

For some reason, I am extremely obsessed with the human body.

And the fragility, the unseen fractures within it.

Some things are just comfortable. Really, they just are.

Like when I board the train, and I hear the voice ring out, “Stand clear of [...]

i love me some crazy white folks

Ch-ch-check ‘em out.

Ahahahah. Yesssss. Pow-WOW to this “shit, mother fuckers!”

Why thank you, ex-neighbor.

trapped in a high class cage?

Don’t sweat it. You’re in good company. So is Crystal Renn in this editorial for Sleek by Cameron Krowe.

And if you’re not, don’t you wish you could join her? This makes me wish I had a bouffant, but then, RogueRanters, I remember that I shaved my head. Hmmmm.

rogueranters, meet colin smith

RogueRanters, meet Colin Smith.

Back in early June, I had the pleasure of watching his set down at Rockwood Music Hall.

While lyrically, some of his songs wreak of that overplayed coffee, sex, and cigarettes, blah, blah, blah, take your pills dear sentimentality, I’m pretty sure I’m probably the only person who feels that way about them. No one else, including the gaggle of females I was sitting next to, seemed to mind very much. Even I didn’t mind very much, which is saying something, because I am oh-so-jaded.

His vocals are refreshing, refreshing in that “almost-haunted” sort of way.

They’re so refreshing I decided to film a clip.

Watch the clip and appreciate the synergy between instruments and vocals, because at a super small, super-packed venue like Rockwood, it’s pretty damn hard not to have one always overpowering the other. (That place is packed like sardines, no joke.) It helps that he had a three week residency there to acclimate, but still, I was impressed. (On the night I visited, Rockwood had actually asked him back, so it was after his official residency had ended.)

And after you’ve checked out the clip above and decided if he’s your style, check out his Myspace, his website, and follow him on Twitter. Then, if he floats your boat, throw on your skankiest hippy outfit, head down to Rockwood on the Lower East Side tonight, and duh, become a groupie already.

Because after watching him, I seriously have to wonder why isn’t more famous.

And let’s be real, RogueRanters, what could possibly be hotter in MusicLand than an artist who is just on the cusp of something really big?

Absolutely nothing.

Enjoy!

*If you’re in the city tonight, he (solo) and his band, MrNorth are playing a double-header at Rockwood Stage 2 at 9:30 PM.

mel b. "better than a spice girl" and roxanne

RogueRanters, I’m still trying to get the feed up and running on this site. Gotten a lot of emails about that, and trust me, I’m working on it. (Issues with the feed translates to not being able to read my blog at bloglovin/google reader/whatever else you use to read blogs.)

In the meantime, I present to you, Mel B. Better Than A Spice Girl‘s blog. I write about her and I, and our adventures with 40′s and [...]
